Private journeys in Bhutan
Monasteries, prayer flags and valleys at a deliberately unhurried pace, in a kingdom that has chosen to keep its visitor numbers small.
Bhutan
The Himalayan kingdom
Bhutan is one of the few countries where travel is still shaped by the host rather than the visitor. The government limits tourism by design, so the valleys stay quiet, the dzongs are working monasteries rather than museums, and daily life follows its own rhythm.
Most journeys begin in Paro, with the walk up to Taktsang, the monastery known as the Tiger’s Nest, then continue to the capital Thimphu and over the Dochu La pass to the fertile Punakha valley. We plan the route around the season and the festivals, and choose hotels that suit the setting, from the calm of Uma by COMO and Amankora to the traditional style of Zhiwa Ling.

Questions
Travelling in Bhutan
How do we get to Bhutan?
Flights to Paro run from Delhi and Kathmandu, among other cities, so Bhutan pairs easily with North India or Nepal. We arrange the connection as part of your journey.
Are there any fees for visitors?
Bhutan charges visitors a daily Sustainable Development Fee set by its government. The rate can change, so we confirm it and show it clearly in your quote.
When is the best time to visit Bhutan?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) bring clear skies and the main festivals. Winter is quiet and bright in the lower valleys.
