Our Golden Triangle tour links Delhi, Agra and Jaipur over eight days, at an unhurried pace and in hotels chosen with you. It is the classic first journey to India, travelled privately with a chauffeur and expert local guides. Arrive for sunset, then return at sunrise the next morning, when the marble changes colour and the crowds are thinnest.

A Jaipur haveli
Three nights at Samode Haveli, a 19th-century mansion inside the walled city, leave time for the bazaars as well as the forts.

Old Delhi up close
A cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk and the spice market, then the calm gardens of Humayun’s Tomb.
The route
Your route
A short, easy route. You drive from Delhi to Agra, on to Jaipur by way of the stepwell at Abhaneri, and back towards Delhi for your flight home. The longest drive is around five hours, broken with a stop.

Your Golden Triangle tour, day by day
Day 1 Arrive in Delhi
You are met at the airport and driven to The Imperial, a landmark hotel from the 1930s on Janpath. The rest of the day is yours to rest.
Overnight: The Imperial, New Delhi
Day 2 Old and New Delhi
A cycle-rickshaw takes you through the lanes of Chandni Chowk and the spice market, then on to India Gate and the government buildings of Lutyens’ Delhi. The afternoon brings the Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb. We can change the order or the pace on the day.
Overnight: The Imperial, New Delhi
Day 3 Delhi to Agra
Drive to Agra, around three to four hours, for lunch and check-in. Later your guide takes you to Agra Fort and then to the Taj Mahal for sunset. Your room looks towards the Taj.
Overnight: Taj View, Agra
Day 4 Agra to Jaipur via Abhaneri
Return to the Taj Mahal at sunrise. After breakfast, drive to Jaipur, stopping at Chand Baori in Abhaneri, one of India’s deepest stepwells. Check in to Samode Haveli in the old city.
Overnight: Samode Haveli, Jaipur
Day 5 Jaipur’s old city
An early walk through the markets as they open, with a cup of chai on the way. Rest at the hotel, then visit the City Palace, the Jantar Mantar observatory and the Hawa Mahal in the afternoon.

Day 6 Amber Fort and the bazaars
Your guide takes you up to Amber Fort in the morning light. The afternoon is free for the bazaars, or for a block-printing workshop with a local craftsman.
Overnight: Samode Haveli, Jaipur
Day 7 Jaipur to Gurugram
A free morning: a hot-air balloon flight over the Aravalli hills can be arranged on request. Drive back towards Delhi in the afternoon, around five hours.
Overnight: Trident, Gurugram
Day 8 Depart Delhi
Transfer from your hotel to Indira Gandhi International Airport for your flight home.

Questions about this Golden Triangle tour
Is this journey suitable for a first visit to India?
Yes. It is the route most first-time visitors choose, with short distances, excellent guides and a gentle pace. Many travellers add one more region, such as Udaipur, Ranthambore or Kerala.
How much time do we have at the Taj Mahal?
Two visits: at sunset on the day you arrive in Agra, and again at sunrise the next morning. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so we plan your dates around it.
How long are the drives?
Delhi to Agra is around three to four hours, Agra to Jaipur around five hours with the Abhaneri stop, and Jaipur back to Delhi around five hours. You travel in a private air-conditioned car with your own driver.
Can we choose different hotels?
